About Andréa
Hi there! My name is Andréa Shaheen and I received my Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Toronto with a specialization in Mental Health and Health. I am a Registered Social Worker with the Nova Scotia College of Social Work (NSCSW).
I provide individual therapy and counselling services to adolescents and adults who are struggling with various mental health and emotional concerns. Specialized populations I work with include first responders. I have previous experience working in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Settings, as well as an Operational Stress Injury Clinic which serves veterans and RCMP.
I use evidence-based approaches and have experience working with anxiety, depression, addiction, grief, loss, stress, self-harm, trauma (specifically PTSD), and emotion dysregulation. I also welcome clients who are currently experiencing difficulties with adjustment or challenges in their life.
I believe in starting where the client is at, and providing a supportive, empathetic, and non-judgmental environment to ensure clients feel respected and understood. I encourages clients to explore their emotions, challenge unhelpful beliefs, and utilize dialectical thinking.
I look forward to hearing from you.
